10gen is a new cloud computing platform-as-a-service technology. Our goal is to make it easy to deploy web infrastructure to the cloud with a large reduction in effort and cost around systems administration, scalability, and configuration. The system consists of a new cloud-aware component stack for building web applications.

10gen provides:

* A scalable grid-aware object database
* Automatic disaster recovery and data replication
* Support for multiple programming languages. Python, Ruby, and server-side Javascript are the first supported languages.

* Source code availability

One good way to describe 10gen in familiar terms is to compare the 10gen platform to the ubiquitous LAMP stack. In the image below, we've put the basic components of the LAMP stack side by side with the basic components of the 10gen platform.
